YMCA Community Service
Community service refers to the
service our players perform for the benefit of our lacrosse
community. People become involved in community service for a range
of reasons - for some, serving community is an altruistic act, for
others it is a punishment. The term "community service"
within our
league is about players giving back to others based on what they
take out of their lacrosse experience.
Many players have earned community service hours by participating in
our umpire shadowing program. Shadowing teaches these players the
rules of the game and in time will allow them to umpire youth games
as well as teach youth in upcoming seasons and clinics.
Community Service is used by college-bound high school seniors as a
way of attracting colleges to accept them. Most colleges require
both community service and work experience. The best overall
community service hours for colleges is generally around 500
hours or
more.
