GIRL'S LACROSSE
EQUIPMENT
(K-5 Click here)
All equipment for field players or goalies is
available at The Sports Authority ("TSA") or online at many retailers
including Sports Her Way.
Eye Protection (Mandatory)
Most girls and women prefer wire cage Goggles, as
lens goggles tend to fog up.
GOGGLES $30 - $60
New in 2008 are the deBeer Lucent goggles, which include
improvements in vision due to the positioning of the horizontal wire cage.
We highly recommend these for the above reasons plus they are just so
comfortable. Cascade PolyPro is perhaps the most comfortable of all;
however, they come at a steep price.

Mouth Guards (Mandatory)
COLORED
MOUTH GUARDS $3-$5
A colored mouth guard for your upper jaw is required. These can be
purchased from any The Sports Authority or sporting goods store.
It must be colored, it cannot be clear or white. There are special mouth guards
that fit comfortably over braces, these costs about $13-$15.
Gloves (Recommended)
Gloves are highly recommended for field player safety. Unintentional incidental
contact is inherent in this sport. They are available at TSA. Prices range from $15.99 to $29.99.
Crosses (Sticks)
 |
 |
| Girls - Traditional
Pocket |
Boys - Mesh Pocket |
The pocket of a woman's stick has 4-5 longitudinal leather thongs with 8 to 12
stitches of cross lacing making it shallower than those of the men's "mesh
pocket". The women's pocket makes catching the ball harder and increases
the difficulty of shooting at high speeds. There is no body checking
allowed in girls lacrosse, unlike the boys game, so the shallower pocket adds an
element of difficulty. The mesh pocket of a boys crosse helps absorb the shock of a body check.
A girl's crosse (stick) must have an overall length of
35 1/2 to 43 1/4 inches. The head of the crosse must be seven to nine
inches wide. The exact length depends on the position and the length of
the player's arms. The general rule is you want a longer (43-44 inches)
shaft for defenders, shorter (36 inches) for attackers.
K-4 Girls are permitted to use "mesh pocket" crosses;
however, to play in the Grade 5 and above a traditional girls crosse
is required. Umpires, at their discretion, may allow "mesh
pocket" crosses and shortened shafts in any youth league game.
If you are new to the sport, we
recommend buying an inexpensive stick ($35-$40); and then shorten the shaft to 29-31
inches. A traditional shaft ships in a length of 33 inches. You will have
to shorten the shaft yourself. Take it to a any local hardware store and
they will cut it for you.
For high school players after a few years many girls seem to be purchasing the
complete sticks (head & shaft) in the table below. The new 2008 deBeer
sticks include the 8 degree “Transfer Offset System” (T.O.S.) on the handle
(shaft) for improved ball control and maximum feel. Prior models had the TOS on the head, which meant you had a straight shaft not an angled one.
There is no need to upgrade to a new stick with TOS if you are comfortable with
what you have.
