LACROSSE EQUIPMENT (K-4)

The rules of mini-lacrosse include playing with a soft lacrosse ball, no goalie and absolutely no contact between body and ball.  Mini-lacrosse focuses on ball control; passing, receiving, cradling, scooping and shooting.  A player is only permitted to take a shot on goal or pass the ball to another player when there is a clear line of sight to the target.   STRICTLY ENFORCED!

Eye Protection (Recommended)

EYE PROTECTION

We highly recommend purchasing eye protection.

Mouth guards (Mandatory)

COLORED MOUTH GUARDS   $3-$5

A colored mouth guard can be purchased from just about any sport store.  It must be colored, it cannot be clear or white.

Gloves (Highly Recommended)

Gloves are  highly commended. Although this division plays by non-contact rules, there will always be unintentional incidental contact.  Therefore, we would like to see all players wearing hand protection.   Gloves are readily available through The Sports Authority in Boca Raton.  Prices range from $15.99 to $29.99.

Crosses (Sticks)

Girls - Traditional Pocket Boys - Mesh Pocket

The pocket of a girl's stick has 4-5 longitudinal leather thongs with 8 to 12 stitches of cross lacing making it shallower than those of the men's "mesh pocket".  The girl's pocket makes catching the ball harder and increases the difficulty of shooting at high speeds.  There is no body checking allowed in girls lacrosse, unlike the boys game, so the shallower pocket adds an element of difficulty.  The mesh pocket of a boys crosse helps absorb the shock of a body check under traditional full contact USL rules.

Girls are permitted to use "mesh pocket" crosses in the K-5 divisions; as well as shortened shafts.  We recommend an overall crosse length of 34-35. Shafts are inexpensive so never sweat cutting the shaft just about any sticks under $100. The cost is in the head not the shaft.   Youth sticks average $25-40.

A traditional girl's crosse (stick) must be an overall length of 35 1/2 to 43 1/4 inches. The head must of the crosse must be seven to nine inches wide.  These are required for the middle school and high school divisions.

Donate your old stick to the YMCA.  We loan donated equipment to players in need.

FOOTWEAR (Mandatory soccer style cleats)

Soccer style cleats are mandatory.   Absolutely No sneakers!
