YMCA Academy competes in 2006 Wishbone Classic November 27, 2006 The YMCA Academy High School team competed in the 1st Annual Wishbone Classic Tournament in Sanford, FL this Sunday. The Y played four teams: West Orange High School, Winter Springs High School, Flager Palm Coast HS and Olympia HS. The YMCA Academy team played two very close games. Fourth (4th) ranked Winter Springs battled the YMCA Academy to wins 23-9 and 8-7; while the YMCA Academy dominated 21st ranked Flager Palm Coast High School, 17-9. There were 16 teams competing in four divisions, with the YMCA Academy competing in the Iroquois division. While the team did not make it to the playoff's, they played well for a team with less than one year of player experience. The overall tournament champion was Winter Springs High School and third place went to West Orange High School, both coming from the Iroquois division. A very difficult division but well worth it. Prior to the tournament, the girls first learned lacrosse in the 2006 Spring season of the YMCA's Greater Fort Lauderdale Youth Lacrosse League followed by the YMCA's inaugural Fall Ball High School League. After successfully competing in the Fall against Douglas High School, Cypress Bay High School and Pine Crest; the girls tested their skills against Central and North Florida's finest.
