YMCA Academy Teaches
St. Mark's Youth Group
November 10, 2006
YMCA Academy lacrosse instructors can be found every Friday afternoon
and evening at St. Mark's School and Church at their after-school "Fun
Friday", and evening "Youth Group" sessions. Besides teaching
the fundamentals of lacrosse such as stick handling, cradling, scooping,
passing and receiving; the instructors teach sportsmanship and player
safety.
The YMCA provides all the equipment
necessary. This game of mini-lacrosse is played with a soft
lacrosse ball with players being taught how to pass with accuracy.
Safety is paramount for our instructors. There are no goalies
in our games and very little shooting except up very close to the goal
and no player may shoot when someone is in front of them. This
game in no way resembles the boys game in that no checking is allowed,
no padding or helmets are required. This is a fun version of the
game that focuses on skill not physical size.
The "Fun Friday" after-school program
is limited to St. Mark's School only; whereas the "Youth Group" is a St.
Mark's Episcopal Church program and is open to K-8 girls and boys.
Both are run by Coach Jim Hill, a teacher at St. Mark's and the youth
group coordinator. Coach Hill is also a staff coach for YMCA
lacrosse.
If your school is interested in
having the YMCA Academy lacrosse instructors attend your after school
programs please call Howard Tripp at (954)334-9622 Ext. 257.
Our YMCA lacrosse instructors include
Sarah Fischer-Anderson, Terri Docal, Libby
Schmehling,
Hillary Hearn,
John Kelley, Gary Fuchs and Bob Motta. |
